The archaeological site of Dura-Europos in modern Syria is a fascinating crossroads of ancient cultures. The over 12,000 excavated artifacts now preserved at the Yale University Art Gallery present a vivid picture of life in a Roman city in the third century A.D.
Flat created an interactive kiosk and website for the traveling exhibit Dura-Europos, Excavating Antiquity. With a design created to adapt to both touch and mouseclicks, Flat worked with archival material from the excavation to create a map of the site. Zooming into the religious structures on the map yields essays and slideshows about the history and significance of Dura-Europos.
